Free Autism Screeners

Public domain autism screening tools are free, evidenced-based measures that can be used to learn more about yourself, decide if you want to pursue formal testing/diagnosis, or obtain a more confident self-diagnosis. While these do not take the place of formal diagnosis, they are a free, helpful tool to learn more about yourself.

CATI

The Comprehensive Autism Test for Individuals (CATI) is an in-depth assessment designed to evaluate a range of traits associated with autism in adults and adolescents. While it is not yet recommended for use in clinical diagnostics, it is a helpful self-screener to learn more about where your traits may fall compared to other autistic people.

AQ

The Autism Quotient (AQ) assessment measures traits commonly associated with autism in areas like social skills, attention to detail, communication, imagination, and routine preferences. By evaluating these domains, the AQ helps identify the presence and degree of autism-related traits in adults and adolescents. The assessment is often used as a screening tool to determine whether further, more comprehensive evaluation for autism may be beneficial.

CAT-Q

The Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire (CAT-Q) is designed to measure how individuals may mask or adapt their behaviors to blend into social settings. This assessment provides insights into three key areas: masking (hiding autistic traits), compensation (adopting neurotypical behaviors), and assimilation (blending in to avoid standing out). The CAT-Q can reveal how these social camouflage strategies impact well-being, helping individuals and clinicians understand and address the challenges that come with masking in daily life.

RAADS-R

The Ritvo Autism Asperger Diagnostic Scale-Revised (RAADS-R) is a specialized assessment tool designed to help identify autism in adults. This test evaluates key areas like social interaction, sensory responses, language, and repetitive behaviors, providing a clearer picture of autism-related traits that may not have been recognized earlier in life.

EQ

The Empathy Quotient (EQ) is an assessment that measures an individual’s ability to understand and respond to others' emotions. It evaluates both cognitive empathy (recognizing others' feelings) and emotional empathy (responding with appropriate feelings), providing a comprehensive look at empathetic tendencies. The EQ is often used to identify differences in neurotypical vs. neurodivergent expressions of empathy, which can be helpful for understanding social interactions and supporting diagnoses like autism.

CBI

The Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI) is a comprehensive tool that measures burnout across personal, work, and client-related areas, providing valuable insights into how stress affects energy and motivation. This assessment is particularly useful for understanding burnout in individuals, including those with autism, who may experience unique stressors in both professional and personal settings. By pinpointing specific sources of burnout, the CBI helps guide effective strategies to improve mental well-being and sustain a healthier balance in daily life.
